LED= light emitting diode.

Daktronics, already a world leader in scoreboard design and manufacture, revolutionized the sports display industry with the incorporation of LED technology in scoring displays. LEDs--short for light emitting diodes--are tiny, solid-state units that harness a semiconductor chip to turn electric energy into visible light. Daktonics was one of the first major display companies to use LED technology in scoreboards, programmable message displays and video systems.

LED technology has been heralded as "the best invention in lighting since Thomas Edison invented the light bulb." LED technology is now used in traffic lights, automotive tail lights and a host of other products. As LEDs continue to develop, the technology will soon be a dominant mainstay in our homes, offices and roadways.

Compared to incandescent lighting, LEDs are more robust (there is no filament to break!). LEDs save money by using less power, typiy operating on less than 20 percent of the power required for incandescent lamps. Plus, LEDs last up to 16 times longer! Best of all, they look amazing due to high-visibility brightness, greater off-state contrast and a more modern, attractive digit design.

PanaView® digits.

It's a fact that LEDs output a specific cone of light. With that in mind, Daktronics designers have created a special innovation, PanaView digit technology, to fully utilize that cone of light for a dramatiy enhanced viewing angle. In PanaView digit applications, Daktronics engineers design the LEDs to protrude directly through the display face. Without anything to block the stream of emitting light, PanaView LEDs produce a significantly wider viewing angle than previous LED and incandescent technologies.

Incandescent digits are also available for most outdoor scoreboards.

Daktronics now offers two color choices of LEDs: red or amber. Both colors offer the same money-saving benefits of LED technology, including low-power consumption and long-lasting digits.
